Reinforcement of Joints Between LVL Members with GFRP and Finite Element Analysis

The goal of this study was to investigate the effect glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) on joints made laminated veneer lumber (LVL), through experimental data and evaluation by ANSYS finite element (FE) software. In order fabricate LVL, from poplar (Populus deltoides Bartr. ex Marsh) with 2.5 mm thickness PVA adhesive were used. T-shape out LVL two wooden dowels incorporated as well. Then GFRP applied reinforce joints. in three grammages (100, 200 300 g/ m2) adhered epoxy resin. Joints reinforcement performed a two-layer reinforcing agent. For comparing effectiveness, half specimens sides other edges. Specimens tested static bending. results have shown that had significant strength Reinforced both stronger than those edge. g/m2 improved 35 % 43 %, respectively, compared 100 grammage. Failure modes are dependent FE highest concentration stress elastic strain generated tension compression zones
